A week into our stay in the redwoods Madeline received a job offer from a potential employer and was given a date for a phone interview. To get a clear signal we drove to a small nearby town where we were able to take the opportunity to resupply, do some laundry, and make a few calls home. After this break from the woods we left Prairie Creek and headed to our next campsite near the Tall Trees grove. We packed up, hiked a short mile and a half down into the grove and began to search the river banks for a good camping spot (due to back country regulations in the area, camping was limited to gravel bars on the river). After searching for only few minutes we began to come across bear tracks. At first the tracks were few and far between, but the further down the river we got the heavier the concentration of bear tracks became until we realized that camping in the area probably wouldn't be a good idea. After exploring the grove for a while (and it was a beautiful grove) we carried our packs back to the car and made our way to a new camping spot that had been recommended to us by some new friends from Portland (thanks Brandon and Kristina).
