Sean, Madeline, Erin and I gave our final goodbye to the tall trees at the Stout Grove in Jedediah Smith state park. We walked through the place in complete silence then headed up to Portland for a two night stay with a few awesome people who completely opened their doors to us and showed us around the town as if we were already close friends. We were forced out of Portland a day early by a snow storm, but we took the chance to head back down to San Francisco where we stayed for another two nights with a friend of Madeline. One interesting thing to note is the transition from exploring the woods to exploring the city, and more specifically my view of both places through a viewfinder. After returning from the trip and looking at my photographs I realized how similar the two worlds were. The visual quality of the places however, couldn't have been more different, but our interactions with the spaces seemed to remain the same. In both places we were nomads. We were free, careless, and happy in the fact that we were in each others company.
