During one of our last days at Prairie Creek Sean fell 25 feet out of a redwood.
The day began as it always did and was spent exploring a new grove near the area. We had been hiking all day and were headed down a trail that led back to our campsite when we came upon a cluster of about five redwoods whose bases had grown very closely together. The closeness of the bases formed a natural platform about 25 feet up where hundreds of years of dead pine needles had fallen into the crevices between the trunks (the view from the top of this platform can be seen four photographs down in the shot of Erin (in pink) from above). Sean and I decided to climb up into this natural tree fort and after a bit of coaxing we had the girls follow. We spent a while up there and Sean was the first to begin the sketchy climb down. Facing the the tree trunks he began to climb down as if he were descending a ladder, but his foot slipped on a slick portion of bark and he fell feet first onto solid ground. I stared in disbelief and immediately thought that he must have broken bones in both legs. Sean got up, started walking, and looked up at me with a silly grin on his face. He was perfectly fine (probably due to the softness of the rich redwood soil) and the only thing we knew to do at that point was to laugh at the ridiculousness of what just happnened.
