Being back in the redwoods felt great, but what made it even greater than my last redwoods excursion was the freedom of having two solid weeks to explore the place (whereas last time our crew was under pressure to race there and back during the small window of time we had for spring break). Without the pressure of having to backpack through the entire place in four days, we had the luxury of being able to wander as freely as we pleased. Upon arriving at our first camping destination, we packed up a few supplies and headed into the woods. After two hours of weaving through large tree trunks and wide expanses of fern covered ground we looked at a map and realized we had only made it less than half a mile from where we had started. We had become totally lost and immersed in the world of tall trees. This is how the redwood forest should be experienced.
