Much of the third day of our trek was spent hiking along the shore. We were surrounded by a vast ocean to our left and towering Redwoods to our right...it was unlike any hike I have ever taken. As we approached our camping spot, we hit a barrier of river systems and had to hike through a half mile of swampy grasses. I say "had to", but it was actually pretty fun. We took our boots off and waded through cool wet waters with our pants rolled up and the sun on our heads. To navigate through these spots you had to walk slowly to avoid stepping on any sharp sticks or losing your balance and risk getting everything on you wet. So in contrast to walking aimlessly along the beach I became focused on the very simple task of not falling and the feeling of cold wet grass on the soles of my feet. After setting up camp, William, Matt and I ran off to explore some large rock formations we had seen in the distance. Once again, getting to these rocks required us to wade through some pretty large bodies of water but the view was totally worth it, and once again, we hung out on the beach until sunset. The next day we woke up, said our final goodbye to the beach and re-entered the Redwoods permanently until our departure from the park.
